Alice Finbow makes films of movement.
She works with everyday movements that can be choreographed to reveal subtleties that would otherwise be missed.
Through editing, repetition, and the displacement of everyday gesture, movement becomes abstracted animated drawings of the body. These could be viewed as conversations we have through our bodies or a reconstruction of the unconscious and the qualities of movements.
She is interested in the comparison of movement, similar to anthropological studies of our personal history of movements. The dance theorist Laban believes that we all carry the trace of experiences and cultures in our bodies, which are expressed through our movement, posture and gesture.
